The
Pavement Ends
and
now what?
abrupt
plunge into an abyss?
or
shaken,
not stirred by an
ever
narrower path
jawbone
shattering rocky torment
or
cruise
on a lush grass carpet
caressing
tire rubber
hushed
lullaby ride
or
halt,
forever frozen
last
gasp wheeze
backward
glance
Hi Joanne - it is as you said previously .. such an obvious statement. Continue on knobbled craggy patches of rock ... love the photo though - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeletethe photo was taken in San Saba - southwest middle of TX. Thanks for checking in. Hope all is well in your end of the world
DeleteLooks like the pavement ended BEFORE the sign.
ReplyDeleteTexans are a tad slow
DeleteGreat poem, Joanne. You have to wonder why someone thought that sign was necessary. I like that you ended with "backward glance" because I think if I encountered that sign it would make me feel like I should turn around, kind of like a "No outlet" sign.
ReplyDeleteit just kinda made me scratch my head.
DeleteOn down the road a ways there is likely another sign...Rough Road....then a little further on another...Pavement Resumes. In Texas it's a challenge to figure out TXDOT. Your poem pretty much does it, though!
ReplyDeleteyou are funny and that would be too true about the signs. Have a great weekend
DeleteYou giving me a choice? I'll opt for the lush grass carpet, thankyouverymuch.
ReplyDeleteBut that really IS a weird place to put that sign. Kinda like putting a "dead end" sign in the middle of a field. I love your poetic take on it.
Here's to a super weekend! (GOOOOOOO, Falcons!)
Oh wait, according to our papers - Cowboys have won the Super Bowl. Sigh. I have another poem for next week. This picture is just too awesome to not use multiple times!!
