Whatever Wednesday - Zoo! Babies!

Lovely early spring weather.  Ray and I needed a break from our normal routine, so I suggested a Saturday visit to the Fort Worth Zoo.  What a delight.  Baby elephant!
Giraffe..  they are just amazing , freaky creatures.
And here's a bad boy - Rhino

We had a good walk.  I did not post my pic of the baby gorilla since it wasn't very good.  But She was so damn cute.  At one point, she stood up and beat her chest like one would expect from a jungle movie.

The Fort Worth Zoo is well done and the new African Savannah area makes us the ones behind bars.. Let these cool creatures roam free.

Zoo World

so, I should have written some book reviews, but I haven't.  Work is "killing me". I get home and do not want to type a bunch. Thus, I'm giving you some happy filler Friday from our lives.

For Valentine's I adopted a penguin in Ray's name.  Isn't he cute?  The Fort Worth Zoo has a nifty program - for a very reasonable fee, you adopt a penguin. In return, you get a stuffed penguin doll, a certificate, and a really nice picture. See below
See the family resemblance. Admittedly, our Rockhopper is a tad more dapper than Ray. However, so far he's behaving well and is not messy- yes, he lives at the zoo. However, I'm sure he's being fed regularly, gets a good night's sleep, and enjoys his habitat. We'll go visit him in the spring.

Meanwhile, adoption is the way to go to support your local zoo. Check it out and be a part of your community.  Zoos work hard to help wild life, do research, and save animals on this planet.

Happy Friday and weekend......I swear I'll type those book reviews!

Majestic Monday Moment

Here's your Monday moment - Ray captured this shot of the lion over Labor Day Weekend. We visited the Fort Worth Zoo.  The lion was perched high, very attentive. The view - across the way was the zebras and she kept her eye on the baby zebra. In her brain, "when's lunch?"  Ah, nature.

On another Monday moment - 9/11 - today we remember. I shall never forget.

Peace

Fort Worth Zoo

Went to the Fort Worth Zoo last Saturday for Ray's birthday. ( www.fortworthzoo.org ). Enjoyed a stroll along their shady paths. They are smart - lots of mister systems set up to keep the crowds cool. They were celebrating all of the babies - 2 year old elephants, baby bonobo monkeys, sleeping lion cubs, and my favorites were two baby girl jaguars. They scampered, played with balls, slapped at each other, and romped. Very cute.

In the aviary, they sell bird seed sticks for $1.  My favorite line of the day by a mother to her two year old daughter, "Bailey, don't lick the stick. No it's not for you."

All in all, you had to keep your eyes peeled for the animals. Due to the heat they were hiding in the shade. Lot of lounging, that's for sure. You also had to watch for ankle clipping strollers - they were out in force.

If you haven't visited a zoo in a while, it's worth going to see and learn about animals. Watch the humans outside the cage, too!
