No Answers

A brief comment on Dallas. I live between Dallas and Fort Worth.
I am ashamed to say that Thursday night, I turned on the news and then took off my glasses and went to sleep. My brain dismissed the enormity of the situation.

I've still been rather numb. I have not read all the articles or even watched much news. I have not shed a tear. I feel weary.

The news conference and statements by Mayor Mike Rawlings and Chief David Brown have been tremendous.

Are there any answers at all? Can "IT" be fixed?  And what is "IT"?

I don't know and that makes me sad

  1. These shootings are becoming so commonplace now that it's hard not to feel numb. I don't know what the solution is. We are so divided and it's just getting worse.

  2. It can be fixed, but I think it will take a long time to fix and a lot of prayers. We need to all calm down and remember we are in this world together, no matter what color our skin is. We need to be respectful to all and treat all kindly. We need to go out of our way to help others, support others, love others even when it hurts. And then we just need to continue doing that over and over again. I think we are all numb too because there is just so much violence recently, we can't absorb it all without getting deeply affected.

    1. I thought your blog post was perfect. I wasn't sure if I wanted to write something and my words were not adequate. But we do have to have hope

  4. That kind of hatred is so sad. What a terrible response. Only cultivating a love and respect for all human life can fix it.

  5. Some things are just too horrible to dwell on, and so to protect ourselves, we become temporarily numb as we watch an endless parade of disheartening stories unfold on the news. If we don't pull back to regroup, we risk losing our perspective and might even forget that there really ARE more good things and good people in the world than there are bad. Yes, we can fix it, because we MUST. Hatred can only exist when unopposed because of apathy, so acts and voices of kindness and compassion from every caring person can and will make a difference. I simply refuse to believe otherwise.

    1. This incident beat me down a bit. However, yes I do agree that the majority of folks in the world are good and do care about life.

  6. I am so sorry that you have to go through this, and so sorry for the families involved. I think numbness is a defence mechanism, otherwise we'd all be wrecks. Violence and hatred take up the news to such an extent that it's hard to remember these are the acts of a few people. I do believe that the good and the great outnumber the haters. Take care.

  7. Sometimes it is necessary to tune out and turn away from news like we've been having lately. It is more than we can bear--at least it is for me. Take care. Wishing peace to all those affected by the shootings.

    1. thanks. I think I'm coming back into the news world. I listened to President Obama's speech today and it was good. The whole memorial was well done. All too sad and yet, something has to come out of this

  8. I know and I don't know. Heavy times. Sometimes all we can do is go numb - it's so overwhelming. None of us is alone, Joanne. We have a huge, loving community.
    Be good to yourself.
