Movie Review Madness - Deadpool 2

Deadpool  2 is NOT for children. Do NOT even think about taking kids to this flick.  If you liked Deadpool,  you will be very happy. Even had a debate with my husband. He liked this second one even more. I felt the first was fresher, but still felt that 2 was worthy – rude humor, snark and more snark, and just laugh out loud inappropriate at times.  Clever snappy dialogues and monologues keep this film a hoot. There are lots of references  to current flicks, Ryan himself, Canada takes a few kicks, he jokes about Marvel vs. DC, and sometimes talks to the camera.  The movie is ridiculously ultra-violent and fast paced. It’s definitely in its own league in the action hero arena.

Basically Wade (Ryan Reynolds) as Deadpool grieves his dead wife and wants to die. However, he does come to help Russell (Zazie Beetz) a teen mutant who can create fireballs with his hands. A soldier from the future, Cable (Josh Brolin) is trying to kill Russell because he knows what the kid does as an adult and how it affects his family. Despite Deadpool’s supposed jaded spirit, he convinces Domino, Colossus, and more to join forces and try to just stop the kid. Turn him away from his future.  This all gets very convoluted. As I read this paragraph I realize I am not conveying the urgency of the situation. Just go with it and trust me.

You will laugh, groan, and laugh some more.  Leslie Uggams as Blind Al is a hoot.  The credits are hysterical, and stay for the bonus two extras during final credit time.  Deadpool 2 kicks off summer movie season with a blast. Enjoy air-conditioning, big screen, popcorn worthy entertainment. And yes, it’s all SO wrong….keep laughing.

  1. Definitely not for kids!
The first one was fresher as we'd never seen a superhero film like it before. But this one was just as funny.
And an X-Force movie is in the works!

    1. I agree. I did like Domino best in the X-force area

  2. As I didn't see the first I can't comment.
    But admire your honest review.
    Enjoy your weekend Joanne.

  3. I didn't see the first one. Why isn't it for kids? Violence?

    1. Language, Violence, innuendo, and just flat not appropriate in any way.

  4. Although I like humor, the violence isn't for me. I will probably skip this one unless someone convinces me to go to it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure my husband and sons will want to see it too. :)

  5. Snark and inappropriate humor? Sounds like it's right up my alley. Matter of fact, we're planning to see it this weekend. :)

  6. Sure not for the kiddos indeed. But fun all around.

  7. In a weird kind of of role reversal my son refused to watch this with his father even before I could barge in with my opinion :) Violence is not my thing, though I am all for snark, both appropriate and inappropriate varieties.

    1. good for your son. And this is so out of this world kind of violence I can allow my eyes to see it or dismiss it as "not real".

  8. watchfreeto - After really looking forward to this movie, I came out of the cinema slightly disappointed. Theres plenty of joke and action but the jokes seemed to be a bit meh, I only remembered laughing out loud twice and story line is a bit disjointed. The problem I had is in the DP 1 you had the shock factor of a tongue in cheek mavel character but in this movie that's already gone, so you have to rely on a good plot but unfortunately it lacked that, so I felt a little bit bored by it. I'm not saying it not a good movie but I expected a lot more but sadly I felt let down.

  9. I completely agree with this review. If Reynolds wasn't a part of the film, both movies wouldn't land. I enjoy him as this character, and actually dug Brolin here as well. Great review!
