Next, settle in to read Mike Campbell's memoir Heartbreaker and learn how a young lad found his soul in a guitar and learned to play like crazy. Then, meet an assortment of like minded musicians and the leading muse, Tom Petty. Out of hardscrabble Florida, the band played every joint in Gainsville. Slowly, they made connections and pushed to make a touring dream come true.
Mike Campbell was lead guitarist and also helped write countless famous songs - Refugee, Here Comes My Girl, You Got Lucky, and Runnin' Down the Dream.
Lots of ups and downs, fights, drugs, and grueling work. Campbell doesn't hold back and his memoir paints a very complete picture of a band and a dream.
RIP Tom Petty
Hi Joanne - I should probably read a lot of these sorts of memoirs ... I'd educate myself re so much of life I've missed out on ... one day perhaps - cheers - great to read through and find out a bit more - thanks - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHi! My blurbs can give you a mini reference point- enough to win an easy trivia question ( maybe). I enjoy the memoirs between my other crap. Have a super weekend.
DeleteSo many years ago, a college roommate played in a coffee house. Her first song, Break Down (is that the right title?) by Tom Petty. I had never heard of Petty, but, I was a convert. RIP indeed.
ReplyDeleteThat one and American Girl just jumped out immediately. I too was along for the ride. Nice!
