Monday Moments - Bye Mavericks Season

April 11th, Ray and I enjoyed  Fan Appreciation Night for the  Dallas  Mavericks. It's been  a crazy season and they did not make the official playoffs.  But on this night, they won - absolutely played circles around  the  Toronto  Raptors.

We also got to hear a little pre-game  special talk by Avery Johnson.  He is a man age 60 now, but was a player and coach back in the day. He did  take the San Antonio Spurs to an  NBA Championship.  Now he's in investments and also involved in basketball programs. Very personable motivational  speaker.  Nice  sense  of humor and he  gave us a variety of insights into  his career.

Another treat - oh  yeah - a hot dog, soda, and popcorn  for  ONLY  $6.50.  Actually our hosts  treated, so it was "free" for us.  Then again, our hosts  are our  financial  advisers and they earn money from us. It's a full circle moment.

Fun entertainment  - Simon  Sez - this is  a guy who runs a real Simon Says game very very fast during  half-time.  Tons of chosen fans were out there playing and he eliminated so many, so quickly.  It  was amusing to watch and to sort of play along.

All in all, we enjoyed Fan  Appreciation Night

Simon Says - Have a Good Week!

Whatever Wednesday - Go Mavs

Our financial advisors  have Dallas Mavericks basketball season  tickets.  Good tickets  and very close great parking. We get invited a few times a year and it's fun.  Lots of good energy.
The Maniacs crack me up.  These are rather large men dressed in ridiculous outfits - they can dance!  Jelly Bellies flopping. They just have the moves and the gumption  to act the fools. Positive  energy.
The arena did get loud.  It was a weirdly paced game.  Lots  of fouls, jump balls, foul reviews, and sheer - oh, good Lord, let's get this done moments!

Prior to the game, we got  to enjoy a talk by J.J. Barea.  Awesome man. He now  lives in Puerto Rico and  hosts basketball camps there.  He  coaches the Puerto Rican team in some capacity. He said he was 5' 10" "on a good day". He was known as a Maverick on the winning  Dirk team who could be fast!!!!

He was "little and quick" in basketball terms.  Now, he stands tall  as a true mentor  - I was very impressed.  Smart, funny, and very positive.  It was a good thirty minute chat.

Then the Dallas Mavericks won somehow.  Whew!  Go Kyrie

PS - they traded Luka... Yikes.  Ignore this post!

Monday Moments - Basketball

Got a last minute invite to go see the Dallas Mavericks play basketball last Thursday evening. The Lorios (we have known them a long time and they are our financial folks) have had season tickets for over 15 years. The folks they had invited had to cancel due to Covid. Oops. So, we lucked out.
Awesome seats, good company, and a loss, but exciting play by the "D" team. None of the big names were in the game - injury, Covid, you name it. No matter what it was a very fun evening.  (FREE! - that's always a bonus)

I hope you folks have had a good holiday. Now we aim toward New Year's Eve. So fun filler posts for now.

Go Mavericks

Early June, hot as blue blazes, and I'm floating a lot in the pool. Reading and writing and sports are all encompassing in this household. Generally the boys of summer, Texas Rangers baseball, predominate. However, the Dallas Mavericks extended their post season streak and are in the NBA Finals. Not only that but tonight they could win it all over the Miami Heat (boo hiss).

Dirk Nowitzki, the Dallas center and quietly humble superstar, has proven his mettle. He's led the team, been a class act, and should earn Player of the Series, in my book. I'm not the best fan and don't watch every second. Too many time outs and fouls annoy me. Just play the game, people. However, I root for the Mavericks and Dirk. They fill the time honored tradition of underdog, and their story requires more page turning. I can only hope it's a satisfying conclusion.

Go Mavs!
