A to Z - Eye on Texas : B

www.a-to-zchallenge.com

Eye on Texas brings you the letter B for Best, Texas - a very, very small unincorporated community in western Texas. In 2000 it had a population of two people. However, oil was discovered in the area in 1923, there was a railroad switching yard established in 1924, and over 3500 people by 1925.

A common slogan was " the town with the Best name in the world and worst reputation."  Guess things got a bit wild.

Sadly, by 1945 the town was in a huge decline, and is now a bump in the road.

Bonus Aspect - a quip from our Downton Abbey Dowager -
"Why does everyday involve a fight with an American?"

  1. Two people - now that's a small town!

  2. Were the two people a boy and a girl?
That my mind would generate a question like that indicates I may have a problem.

    1. If Al really had a problem, his next question would've been,
"And were the brother and sister married to each other?"

Keep those Downton Abbey quotes coming, Joanne!

  3. Awww… I feel bad for Best. Too bad it didn't survive the times.

LOL over Al and Julie's comments… they are too funny.

  4. Two of Bests best citizens...no doubt about it. Never heard of this little two person Ghost Town, but I will one up ya with Very Best, Texas...about 15 miles from San Angelo.
