Finally Friday - Guardians 3

Hey - finally caught up with Guardians  of the Galaxy 3.  It's ridiculous good fun. I won't even pretend to give the plot.  Hey - saving the galaxy again  - the title says it all.  It's irreverent. If you enjoy the Marvel Universe - this is light and very tongue in cheek.  Chris Pratt is great. Zoe Zaldana is always awesome. Dave Bautista cracks me up.  Vin Diesel voices  Groot and that's enough for me. His growl could read me the phone book and  I'm happy.

Ray and I enjoyed a movie date as we catch up to real life after vacation. Indulge me - ha!

And have a good weekend!

Finally Friday - Knock at the Cabin

Is it the end of the world?

Andrew ( a sensitive Jonathan Goff) and Eric ( tough Ben Aldridge) are driving up to a cabin getaway to enjoy the outdoors and time with their young adopted daughter Wen (an excellent Kristen Cui). The joy in the vehicle is summed up as they all sing to K.C. and the Sunshine Band - Boogie Shoes.

Fun turns to suspense, dilemma horror when Four Horseman of  the Apocalypse show up led  by Leonard (a soft spoken intense Dave Bautista). Knock at the Cabin directed by M. Night Shyamalan asks what do you do when facing the impossible decision - save your family or save humanity?

This movie was very good and perfectly timed (100 minutes). I jumped. I worried. I questioned - what the heck is really happening? M. Knight knows how to tell a story with twists, turns, and a ticking clock. Perhaps a bleak theme, and yet in this day and age with the doomsday clock being reset seemingly daily, it hits in the gut. Very good acting and a tight setting - a cabin in the woods where you think you've "escaped" reality for enjoyment and then the solitude punches you in  the gut.

I will not give away more, but Knock at the Cabin is worth a peek. A  good popcorn flick to start the year.

Monday Moments - Glass Onion Hilarity

If you haven't seen Glass Onion: A Knives Out Movie yet, what are you doing that's more important?

I'm ready to watch it again and try to pick up more pop culture references. This flick is an absolute hoot. Daniel Craig is back as Benoit Blanc, world's greatest detective. He's been invited to a tech billionaire's retreat with old college friends. A murder (Edward Norton - rich dude Miles Bron) is to occur and the gathered friends (Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista are to solve it. All in good fun.

BUT...cue dramatic music. A real murder or two happens, plot twists abound, Benoit's skills are put to the test and how did he really get included?

So many little back  stories. Everyone has a reason to want Miles dead.  Benoit must truly peel back the onion to expose the truth.

Great cast, clever script, excellent production. Just a fun escape. Join the fun in 2023 - it's a good start to your movie year.

Movie Review Madness: Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is beyond awesome silly fun.  This is a Marvel misfit movie. What could go wrong in outer space will and it will be very amusing. Peter Quill as a young boy loses his mother. He runs out of the hospital and is sucked into space. Twenty six years later we see him, played by an awesome Chris Pratt, stealing an orb, living by a mixtape, and trying to get a nickname Starlord to stick. He’s a charming rascal.  In this chase for the orb, he encounters a green girl – Zoe Saldana – totally badass and her sister Nebula is worse. Rocket the raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) is the brains behind any operation but he’s a creature with no scruples. Groot (Vin Diesel’s voice) is a walking tree. Dave Bautista voices a serious Drax who takes everything literally. Altogether they are a mess and yet they slowly conquer the fight against Ronin.

In the early stages of the movie, don’t worry too much about all of the planets and leaders, etc. Concentrate on our self-proclaimed Guardians. They bicker and they are a mess and it works. This movie is hysterical as it kicks into high gear. Stay conscious of the winning oldie soundtrack – that’s the charm of this flick. Entertaining – this is a full bucket of popcorn and a large soda movie. Truly joyous – Ooh Ooh Child will never be the same.

We are Groot.  That’s the motto. Watch the movie and join the club. Stay after the credits for a blip of an old joke.  Guardians of the Galaxy is summer movie magic.
