Finally Friday - More Treats

Finally Friday. Push away the worries of the week
Lean into the weekend

Rest your weary bones

After our DMA stroll (see Wednesday post), now we check out the Nasher Sculpture Center. It's right next door in the Dallas Arts District.  I enjoyed their outdoor area.  Indoors was an exhibition of Harry Bertoia's work - astounding metal pieces including a whole grouping that "play like instruments". The thrum of the art was quite a vibe.

What's your vibe this weekend?   Enjoy as spring slowly evolves

Featured Nasher Artist - Sterling Ruby

The Pot is Hot (2018) by Sterling Ruby is larger than it looks in this picture. It was cool to see in person last Sunday when Ray and I explored the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas.

This young artist is considered cutting edge exploring ceramics and pouring urethane.  He had a lot of minimalist structures combining graffiti and text. I won't pretend to know what he was expressing.  I thought quite a few pieces were interesting and I really wanted to touch them. (That is a no-no in museum etiquette)
Some of the ripple effect, shiny bits, and drips just glistened.  When you discuss modern art, I believe it is mandatory to use the word juxtaposition.  And there you go.

Ray put up with this part of our adventure day. He was not thrilled with the pieces and found quite a few rather silly. I agree on some of the fabric pieces and the mobile, but I liked the poured pieces - the colors and textures.  One called the Time Machine amused me.

It's good to check out new stuff and then play judge and jury. There's something for everyone.
It's ART.

Happy Monday!

Wordless Wednesday - Shadow Play

shadow play and striking figures at the Nasher sculpture garden in Dallas
Yo - there's Ray running amok in the garden
 Fork
 Shadows are way cool
and more.

Ray and I had an excellent weekend - one stop was the Nasher Museum of Art - Modern Art and Sculpture garden.  I've been there before - took some of the same pics and yet...the shadows are always different.

Keep looking...down, up, around........art is there and beyond what you think you see....

Tony Cragg: Seeing Things

Tony Cragg: Seeing Things is a collection of thirty pieces of sculpture at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas. Seeing things, indeed. These hard to miss dramatic pieces of wood, stone, bronze, and more are fantastic. Mr.Cragg's first exhibit was in 1979, and he's still exploring shapes, materials, and concepts - stretching the boundaries of space and form.

Kids would have a blast if they were allowed to crawl through this sculpture. It was tempting.

Mr.Cragg: What I think is important for me is something different: a sculptural quality that doesn't emulate time.....there is some sense of passage, there is a sense of flow, there is an intuition of flow in the sculpture.

and another view. It had been a gray dreary day, but our time at the Nasher was sunny, adding reflections, extending the flow of the piece with shadows.

I love the energy and movement in his pieces. I would not get tired of viewing his work. Indeed, each angle offers a different way of seeing things.
