Featured Nasher Artist - Sterling Ruby

The Pot is Hot (2018) by Sterling Ruby is larger than it looks in this picture. It was cool to see in person last Sunday when Ray and I explored the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas.

This young artist is considered cutting edge exploring ceramics and pouring urethane.  He had a lot of minimalist structures combining graffiti and text. I won't pretend to know what he was expressing.  I thought quite a few pieces were interesting and I really wanted to touch them. (That is a no-no in museum etiquette)
Some of the ripple effect, shiny bits, and drips just glistened.  When you discuss modern art, I believe it is mandatory to use the word juxtaposition.  And there you go.

Ray put up with this part of our adventure day. He was not thrilled with the pieces and found quite a few rather silly. I agree on some of the fabric pieces and the mobile, but I liked the poured pieces - the colors and textures.  One called the Time Machine amused me.

It's good to check out new stuff and then play judge and jury. There's something for everyone.
It's ART.

Happy Monday!

Art - Frank Stella

More art on my Saturday a few weeks ago. The Modern Museum of Fort Worth featured Frank Stella - A Retrospective. Wow - The man is prolific and still creating. Over 120 works featured painting, reliefs, maquettes, sculptures, and drawings. Some of the pieces are massive.  The colors pop and seem to move on the wall.

The huge sculptures were my favorites. They flowed and seemed to reach out and draw you in. The man experimented with geometry and space. Here's a quote from Mr. Stella:

Virtual space has no ground. That's the beauty of it. It's about destroying ground so you can explore all the dimensions and viewpoints.

Frank Stella is an artist with no boundaries.

Bernini and more

Forget cramped airlines, crappy airline food, and jet lag.  I traveled to Italy with a good writer friend, Ann Summerville, and we hit the streets of Rome on Saturday September 20th, running.  You can't go wrong in the Piazza Navona. It is dramatic, gleaming, and a dream come true.

Bernini sculptures have to be seen in person. Pictures do not do them justice. The detail, the creativity, the story, the characters, the size - I was in awe.

So many statues, so little time.  This was just day one, hour one and it got better and better. My eyes are full of beauty - Italy itself, the people, the food, the art, the history. I shall share the adventure until you scream "No more!"
