Monday Moment - Sheer Energy - future

Monday Moment fun.  My book reviews last week were far too serious.  Time for some goofy.
How's this - Dakota will turn 1 end of May.  She's exerting personality.  Third girl in the family. Oh, is she learning from those big sisters?  Yikes
Two birthday girls.  Skylar turned 3 on 5/2. She's a stinker.  And then Dakota is right there in the middle of trouble.   Big sis Makyla isn't pictured here.

Lots of energy in that household.  Hope I made you smile on a Monday.

Happy Birthday Dad: My Writing/Editing Hero

Getting old ain't for sissies - Bette Davis

George Lewis Crowther, born July 15, 1931, is my father and my hero. He is still my spellchecker/editor and will politely email me any blog corrections. He trundles to the gym daily, mows his own yard, climbs steps to retrieve items upstairs, and hauls laundry downstairs to his basement. He works the New York Times crossword puzzle (in pencil, not pen), mails me amusing cartoons, and runs errands with his older sister. Dessert at every meal is the key to happiness.

My father gained his love of cars from his father, who died at a young age. My dad fondly recalls hanging at a local garage, hearing car discussions and debates. To this day, he takes the train with friends to the Philly Auto Show, hops in and out of shiny vehicles, and gathers brochures. Call him in for car negotiations - he can finagle a bargain.

An old man in a house is a good sign - Hebrew saying

Age is mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter - Satchel Paige.

Dad married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Shutters. They showed us kids - me, David, and Lori - how to be happily married. Truly, a respectful couple who worked together to build a really nice life. Mom's been gone close to twenty years now. Dad's maintained the house, done some redecorating, and stays up really late (that's his one bold break from life with Mom).

Wrinkles should merely indicate where the smiles have been - Mark Twain

Lots of smiles through the years. His work ethic, family ethic, and a sunny disposition have garnered good friends and good times. Emails replace phone calls, but the laughter zooms through the air. I'm very fortunate to say Happy Birthday, Dad! and to wish him good health for many years to come.

The family with an old person in it possesses a jewel - Chinese saying

We are rich beyond compare.
(not that you're old yet, Dad)

Cheers!

Summer Scattershoot

Party for a two year old. Makyla just unwrapped our present and there's a small tug of war over the really cool rubber ball we gave her. You know, there's a lot of drama in life at age two. It's not all goodness and light - deep seeded resentments prevail and motivation for theft. Fortunately, the attention span is short and we had more presents to open.
Ray and I attempt to build Makyla's library. So there's a book flung on the floor and she has one in hand. The general titles and pictures are not enthralling (forget the Stieg Larsson Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, etc series). However, barnyard animals, colors, and opposites are engaging when you are two. Kevin, her father, is pleased to have some new reading material to recite over and over and over. And, you know, he's still working on his colors!

Books in hand, she seemed happy. Other kids were ready to move on. Barbies were a big hit as well as a vanity set. However, I do believe the books have staying power.

Props to Maria (the mother) for a very lovely oreo ice cream cake. The party theme was garden - flowers and butterflies. The decorations were extremely clever and the cake was yummy.

I told you it was yummy. This is the way to eat ice cream cake. Strip to the skivvies and dig in. Just don't open a book to read until you've wiped your hands ... and face ... and ..........
