Whir
garage door opens
signals arrival of my love
he tosses keys, frowns, cycles mail
slowly shakes off the
work day
hangs dress trousers
crumpled shirt thrown
Into laundry bin
dons jeans and t-shirt
he can breathe
laces sneakers and smiles
“walk around the block?”

There's nothing like shedding the work clothes and with them, the work day.
ReplyDeleteRay's always happy to come home to you. I love how you turned a daily ritual into a lovely poem, Joanne! The amazing thing is that you've made it look so easy.
ReplyDeleteJulie
That conjures up a lovely picture.
ReplyDeleteNice! I like the idea of changing outlook with the change of clothing.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I think everyone who's had a man in their life at any point can relate to this one, Joanne. You brought me into the feeling of the moment -- husband steps in the door. It conjures up mixed emotions, that's for sure. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Sounds very familiar. :-) Welcome home!
