Oh yes, everything is bigger in Texas. The State Fair is a marvel. It runs for a month and is SO much fun. There are shows, exhibits, fried foods galore, and how about this wall of butter carving......Crazy, right?
Award winning quilts in the creative arts building. Folks are so talented
The Hall of State is a gorgeous permanent building in Fair Park. The exhibit this year was Texas and WWI. Quite fascinating. But I've always loved this wall sculpture.
The Esplanade. Art Deco buildings are all around. Huge auto show is inside. Ray test drove the 2018 Chevy Colorado. No purchase yet....
and cool statues abound.
More pics in a later post. Happy Friday - gotta love October

ReplyDeleteYvonne.
thanks. You would enjoy the variety
DeleteMy late husband was from Texas and loved the state fair. Always wanted to pull my daughter out of school to go. (We live in Michigan). But we didn't. Glad you had such a good time.
ReplyDeleteoh, she would have learned stuff at the fair. Oh well. If you ever come back to TX, visit at fair time. Take care
DeleteA whole month? Wow.
ReplyDeleteButter carvings - now that would be wild to see.
the State Fair is a BIG DEAL!!! trust me
DeleteLasting for a month is impressive indeed. Butter carvings sure take skill.
ReplyDeleteand the folks flow in. It's never empty for a whole month. Football games, concerts, fireworks, etc
DeleteOur state fair runs for a month too; in fact this month I think they wait until it cools down a bit. Hubby and me are thinking of going and checking it out. Looks like yours was a fun one!

Hey - you have to have a fried food fix. Enjoy
DeleteSounds like BIG fun. (What else could we expect of Texas?) We've only been to the state fair here in Georgia a couple of times, but I went almost every year to the one in Maryland when we lived there. I once spent a couple of hours watching a baby chick peck its way out of a shell.
ReplyDeleteA butter carving, huh? I've gotten some slabs of butter in restaurants that were hard enough to make a carving... Of course, Smarticus would either whip out his lighter or soften the butter brick over the candle. Afterwards, we'd see other people sitting nearby following suit.
Have a super weekend.
Funny butter churn. Some crazy stuff at the fair
DeleteHi Joanne - certainly a large area. Love the wall of butter -while those quilts are always works of art ... which I am incapable of! That wall sculpture is pretty amazing isn't it - enjoy your visit/s ...cheers Hilary
ReplyDeletethanks. You would enjoy Fair Park - it was built back in the Art Deco period. Permanent buildings for displays, etc. Plenty of history for Texas.
DeleteOh wow. I would have such a lovely time there. Marvelling at the quilts, in awe at the butter wall, cruising and sticky beaking...
ReplyDeleteTrust me. Plan a trip to TX for October. Lots of fun and decent weather too
DeleteSounds like great fun. The quilts are so mind blowing wow!
