Frozen 2 movie review

I went to see Let It Go 2 – aka Frozen 2. After all, Let It Go was an earworm you could not escape when the original Frozen phenomenon hit theaters. Frozen 2 does not disappoint and kids clapped at the end of the film. I’m sure many will see it again and again and again. The franchise stays on track and I agree with the Dallas Morning News – the movie has all the staying power of a snowflake. It evaporates almost on contact.

The movie is pleasant with snowy landscapes, fun lines, decent songs, and sister power. Elsa (Idina Menzel) is queen of Arendelle. Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), and Olaf (Josh Gad) follow Elsa when she hears a mysterious voice from the forest. Turns out she needs to free the forest from a fog, work with native people in the area, and resolve an ancient struggle to right some historic wrongs. She has her ice powers, but she still need her posse – most of all her sister. The journey involves the scary giant boulder men, caves, a very cool water horse, and dealing with all elements – fire, water, air, and earth.

This sister bond is the key to this movie and what makes the concept of Frozen and Frozen 2 special. The movie made me happy and yes, I want to build a snowman…

TV review - The Good Place

The Good Place is hilarious television. It’s now on Thursday nights on NBC – thirty minutes of clever dialogue, excellent acting, and super premise. Get caught up and watch it NOW!!!

So, Eleanor (Kristen Bell) finds herself in a new neighborhood in heaven that’s run by Michael (Ted Danson). Supposedly she was an awesome person on earth. But alas, same name, different story. She knows she was “bad” and does not deserve to be there. Totally funny!!!!!

And now her actions seem to be affecting this little piece of heaven.  Her “soul mate”, and ethics professor (played perfectly by William Jackson Harper) has a goal to get her up to snuff, keep the secret, and attempt to not be appalled by her actions.

This is an awesome premise with hysterical writing, great acting, and an all-around good vibe.  I love the flashbacks that show Eleanor being rude and crude. Now in heaven, she does reflect on these scenes and we can see her try to re-write her story. The Good Place  is just a fun sitcom with plenty of material to work with. Please watch. Pray for your souls, and laugh!!!

Movie Review Madness - Bad Moms

Bad Moms is very R and very hilarious.  I went by myself, but this was obviously a ladies day out type movie. Lots of groups of women were howling up a storm (in a good way). The energy in the theater was palpable.  Mila Kunis as Amy truly has a star turn in this movie – she is perfect as the working mother who’s trying to keep up with life. Life is winning – it’s tough to pack the perfect lunch, bring the super healthy baked goods for PTA, juggle a (cheating) husband, and support your kids.

Christina Applegate is Gwendolyn – she seems to be the super mom who leads the PTA like a Nazi. She and her posse are the mean adult girls. After a particularly horrendous day, Amy arrives late to PTA and says, “No.”  No to volunteering, no to rules, no no no……….well that does not go over well and a war ensues between Amy and Gwendolyn. Amy stops making her kids breakfast and lunches. She stops doing the special homework. She goes out drinking with her new renegade mom/friends played by Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn (laugh out loud funny. She is comedy joy).

The movie gets a tad outrageous and the language can be rather blue, but the overall story is worthwhile and well done. The kids learn how to be a bit independent. Amy shows you can be a good mom without being a helicopter. There is an emphasis on friendship and empowerment.  Stay through the end credits where the actresses and their real life moms answer a few questions. It’s really cool.

Bad Moms is one of the most enjoyable movies I’ve seen this summer. I did not have high expectations and was very happy and entertained. Grab some friends and go have a laugh together.
