World Poetry Day a Day Late

Thursday was World Poetry today.  But what the heck, I'll make it Friday. Just a day late. Maybe I was too busy writing some poems

or gazing at the sky

or watching the return of

the ducks

returned to hang poolside
as they flew overhead did they notice
weeds in our yard, leaves in the pool
wish we'd clean up more?
non-judgmental, they glide under
diving board overhang, content quacks
settle in sun, afternoon snooze
raise flag for cabana service
to no avail, one last dip
before takeoff, emerald head
glints in cloudless sky

Happy Friday and Weekend and Poetry

Monday, February 1, 2016

such a gorgeous weekend

Holy cow - it was perfection in North Texas this weekend. Up in the 60s or more.  Clearest blue skies and minimal wind
We're talking lawnmowers and leaf blowers - no snow blowers, obviously  - sorry my Northeast friends
Local Chisholm Park in Bedford.  Above - a wood duck - such pretty colors.
Fat ducks thanks to all of the bread folks throw in the pond.
Ray and I got in our steps and enjoyed the calm.

Serene Stopover

Visitors stopped by the other day. In no hurry, they lounged poolside and plunged into our rather brisk water with nary a qualm. They floated happily, bemused by the pool cleaner, and unmussed by the fountain spray.
I tiptoed about taking pictures and I'm guessing as long as I didn't do a cannonball off the diving board, they were delighted to pose for this post.

I think they were scoping out nest choices and our back bushes looked inviting except there are rumors of a large hawk in the neighborhood. They paddled to and fro, possibly wondering about the lack of water reeds, fish, turtles, and other nature flora and fauna.

They left quietly that evening. No farewell quack. Just a few downy feathers floating in the pool. Cute couple - we wish them well.
