Support your local theater. I am ashamed of myself. I go to Dallas and Fort Worth for various theater shows and musicals. But I've never been to Onstage Bedford in my own backyard. Well, Ray and I remedied this on Saturday July 8th. First dinner at La Bistro in Hurst - yummy Italian food. Then off to the show for what turned out to be quite a fun evening.
Disaster! is a musical based on every disaster film you can think of. It spoofs The Poseidon Adventure, Titanic, Towering Inferno, etc. A variety of characters are attending a casino opening on a floating barge. Of course explosions ensue, an earthquake causes a tidal wave, there are piranha loose from the aquarium, and meanwhile the actors are singing and dancing away to an 80s soundtrack. The application of these song in times of dire disaster prove hysterical.
The actors give it there all and enthusiasm abounds. At times a teensy pitchy singing, but the end result was just an enjoyable time. The theater is quite nice -seats 100 people, so intimate. Sound, sets, and lighting, etc are all quite professional. I will be back for more shows.
If Disaster! strikes your local theater, go check it out. You will survive!

Sure had many a tune to get people to swoon. Sometimes fun ones are in our own backyard indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe music made the show silly fun
DeleteThere used to be a drama group in my hometown and I would go to their plays because so many of my friends were members. There are still plays at the Cape Playhouse but I never go.
ReplyDeleteIt was an amusing cheap night
DeleteNow that sounds like a fun play! I like the touch with the escaped piranha.
ReplyDeleteThe puppets were a good touch
DeleteSeems like a good show with loads of great songs! We go to the West End of London for many shows but also visit our local suburban theatres as well. We went to see Girl From the North Country featuring fifteen or so Bob Dylan songs last night in Central London. The curtain came down at 10:05pm and we were indoors just before 11pm!

now that sounds fun. Glad you are out and about in the theater area
DeleteSounds like a riot! I personally, always prefer local venues if available.

Funny for the price and nice little theater
DeleteI LOVE local playhouses. The musical you saw sounds like a lot of fun, and with all of those good songs that were in it, you were probably tapping your toe through most of it. My favorite local playhouse does a show called "Christmas Canteen" every year, and seeing it is a big highlight of the holidays for me. It's different every year, but it ALWAYS has lots of fantastic singing, dancing, and plenty of laugh-out-loud humor.
ReplyDeleteHave a super weekend, kiddo.
This group does a show at Christmas. I will be checking it out.
DeleteTake care
That sounds good Joanne,
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Totally silly fun. Folks put a lot of effort into this.
DeleteI love local theater. There is often a good deal of entertaining talent, and it is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening for less expense than attending a larger theater production. This one sounds like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteKeep your eye out or suggest your local group try it. Very funny
