Wednesday Whatever - Lake Brownwood State Park

Two weeks ago, Ray and I went to San Saba to hang with Aunt Pat. Fortunately that Friday proved cool (40s) but sunny and nice. Time to hit a state park. Lake Brownwood is 1-1/2 hours away.
This is the Grand Staircase off the Lakeside Trail. It's a grand piece of construction from the Civilian Conservation Corp (1946-1950s). We are fortunate to enjoy their hard work.
Ray got to the bottom first. It was not a race.  But you can see how pretty the lake and area are even in January.  We had the place to ourselves (a benefit of retirement!)

Here I am, happy as a clam after a picnic lunch. Almost ready for our short hike.

I have a Texas State Park Pass and we hope to take advantage of the variety of parks/lakes throughout the state.

Enjoy your own "backyard"!

  1. I have a parks pass for Massachusetts. I got it because it allows me to park at a beach in the next door town for free but also look forward to taking it further afield!

  4. Sure looks like a great place to explore and enjoy time together. But "it wasn't a race" only because he won, right? lol

    1. Hi - And that's TX - one day it's Jan. sun, next up is Feb ice...ice, baby. It rained and now 23F and slick as snot, plus a small layer of snow on top. Treacherous. Lucky to be retired and hunkered down reading and watching Netflix. All good. Thanks.

  6. Looks like a lovely hike! I'm planning on striking out more to newer areas this year since I hike a lot of the same places.

    1. Good idea. It's surprising how many little nooks and crannies there are in our world/own backyard. Enjoy
