Whatever Wednesday - some culture - Colorworks

New year, new attempt to break free from 2020 doldrums.  Sunday, while Ray yelled at Cowboy football on the television, I took a quick jaunt to the Arlington Museum of Art. It was two other lost souls and me wandering the galleries.  Here's one of the upper rooms. It's rather sad these days when life just isn't bustling.
A bonus exhibit was from the Texas Photography Society - a juried collection of street view photography based on the premise of Vivian Maier's work. Some really nifty winning photos to peruse.
I saw Ms. Maier's black and white photos a year or two ago. It was nice to contrast them with her color photography which proved a bit more playful. The photos featured were taken in the 1960s and 1970s. Her work had been discovered after she passed away - storage rooms filled with tons of prints and even undeveloped film.

Here's a view down from the upper gallery. The museum isn't fancy and I was there maybe forty-five minutes. I did feel refreshed - after all I had actually dressed up and left my house (yes, with mask on ).

2021 - time to emerge a bit safely, support the arts, and escape reality for a brief moment.

Enjoy and engage - that's a new mantra to employ.

  1. Glad you went to the gallery. Most places aren't that busy and it's easy to distance.

    1. exactly. I felt fine. We all had masks and we aren't touching stuff or breathing next to each other. Nice to get out a bit.

  2. Happy New Year Joanne, wonderful post just the thing for a new year. Ray yelling about football took me back years, my late husband and late son was football mad. In fact my son was a pro. footballer in his ounger dau. Ah the memories.

    Take care.

    1. this was American football, but same principle. Just not happy if things aren't going well for their team. Glad I could make you chuckle and have a good memory.

  3. Hi Joanne - well done ... better than the match - I so agree! Vivian Maier - how very interesting ... I see there's been a documentary film about 'Finding Vivan Maeir' - obviously got her work out into the market place. I'd like to check it out sometime ... all the best for 2021 ... Hilary

    1. the documentary is what got me interested and then these exhibits showed up locally. Rather fascinating all around. You'd definitely like it and her works.

  4. Good to get out and enjoy even if only for 45 mins. Nothing is full of life much these days indeed.

    1. I try to find "safe" places to go. No one is hanging at art museums and you don't touch stuff there. It works
