Happy Valentine's Day.  All of the above for my honey - Ray.   Yes, I am keeping him alive after knee surgery. I'm not the best caretaker. I count on him normally to be the best cook, but I'm pulling together meals.

And my other fave valentine is my dad - age 90-1/2.  He's kicking along or rather shuffling  about. My brother and sister are amazing and keep him going in his house. He's happy with his oldie movies, tasty soup, and plenty of desserts - small portions. 

I wish everyone a happy Valentine Monday. I hope it's a good day and you can celebrate your favorite people - friends, family, a salute to those passed, or throw down the gauntlet for a potential love. 

Or be good to yourself - play your favorite tune, eat a really good meal, or just hit that thermostat an extra degree to be warm.

Happy Valentine's Day to everybody.  Hope it's a good day and a good weekend.

Love means surviving a makeover. Ray and I, hopefully, have new floors when you read this. I can't promise I'll have our computer back on to comment on everyone's posts.

We've done a rather thorough purge of stuff in closets that have not seen the light of day for years....and years....and years.

I've shredded plenty of ancient history.  Decisions have been made, we are trying to think outside the box - how shall we use our space in the next 5, 10,15, 20 years? 

These are the times that try men's (and women's) souls.  We aren't moving. Hence the construction chaos.  But we are hanging tough, cooperating, and collaborating. All  for a common purpose - our lives together under the same roof.

Wish us luck. I see the light on the other side. Meanwhile....chocolate...thank goodness for Valentine's Day chocolate.

Valentine Love Week

Looking through my pile of poems, I regret I don't have a ton of love poems. No slobbering, silly, over-the-moon craziness. Maybe I take Ray for granted. (He is nodding right this second).

Alas, I need to write more happy pieces. However, it looks like I write when I'm a moody mess. (Poor Ray). But thanks to love, he seems to put up with me (and vice versa). Thus, I post this wacky poem that does turn in his favor and I think demonstrates those little moments.  That's LOVE.

Overcome

disconsolate

moody

I pout

slouch

legs flop

arms cross

furrow my brow

calculate my concerns

tears well for

show time

why doesn’t he

sense my distress

enter the room

Cupid's LIning Up His Arrow

I'm a sucker for M&M candies. Pick the seasonal color and I've got the holiday bowl to hold 'em. Pink and white - yep, it must be February and Valentine's week. Well, I've been munching on them for a few weeks now. No, they don't fit into the diet plan set on New Year's Day, but I have avoided Girl Scout cookies. M&M's truly don't melt in the hand, so they are perfect as a treat while reading or writing.

Enjoyed a Wall Street Journal article (2/9/10 p. D1) on Happy Couples Kiss and Tell. How do former President Jimmy Carter and Rosalyn maintain their perfect union? "Separate projects, and, well, don't ever write a book with your husband," she said. Point taken - sorry Ray.

In general, the advice for making a marriage last comes down to common sense: 1. Find the middle ground - compromises. 2. Be funny - humor and laughs together. 3. Keep (some) secrets. One woman said she has her own bank account. 4. Never, ever give up. Oh there's some days ... when ... but you've got to keep talking and work it out. 5. Stay alive. They asked a couple who'd been married 70 years what's the secret. The wife said, "Eh, neither of us died."
