We kick off our Eye on Texas in Acton, TX - near Granbury. This community has the smallest state park in Texas - only 0.006 acres. It hosts the burial site of Davy Crockett's second wife, Elizabeth.
Acton has been a community since 1852. It advertises a FREE public boat ramp if you need access to Lake Brazos. And the Acton Nature Center offers 74 acres of paths, butterflies, and First Saturday Bird Walks - all free.

Let's have a quote from the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey - Things are different in America, they live in Wig Wams.
King John - the good, but mostly the bad ...

Lol, I've never watched Downton Abbey - that's a great quote :-)

I thought it was the law in England to watch Downton - ha! It is a great show - Maggie Smith is a treasure, but the whole cast is fantastic.
DeleteDang It!!! How have I not been to Acton and it's State Park. I did not know Davy Crocket had a wife...much less a second one...but then he's not one of my ancestors. Wow! 74 acres of Butterflies and Birds...that's a lot of watching your step on the paths.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, but at least most of our WigWams are heated and air conditioned. Funny 'Ol Dowager Gal'! Great start for the AtoZ Challenge, Joanne. See ya tomorrow for the 'B' eyeball.

ReplyDeleteTalk about eyeballs. :D
ReplyDeleteI actually haven't heard of Action before now. Thanks for that info. I wonder if my friends there are aware of it.
Neat!
ReplyDeleteThis is all going to be new to me. I'd never heard of Acton before today.
ReplyDeleteGotta love Maggie Smith!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my site!
Gee whiz that's a giant eyeball! You're off to a great start with the challenge. :)
ReplyDeleteWait, Davey Crockett was a real person? I thought he was a legendary folkhero. Well, he was that too. Slap to the forehead. Thanks for the info, Joanne. This'll be a fun tour.
ReplyDeleteI thought John Wayne was Davy Crockett. I think they lied to me at school.
DeleteOr the movie theater.
That is really a cool piece of info!
ReplyDeleteAlways wanted to live in a wig wam as a child. Never heard of this Texas town before. Wonder how long it would take a person to visit every Texas town?
ReplyDeleteDavy Crockett had two wives? Now you see I've learned something again today. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know about Davy Crockett's wives. What a cute little park! Loved the bonus quote from the Dowager! This was fun, Joanne!

Great theme! My family is from Texas, but there is so much I don't know about the state because I didn't grow up there! Like that there's a giant eyeball! I'm looking forward to these :-)
