per Wikipedia:
According to one local legend, Cut and Shoot was named after a 1912 community confrontation that almost led to violence. According to differing versions of the story, the dispute was either over:[4]
- The design of a new steeple for the town's only church,
- The issue of who should be allowed to preach there, or
- The conflicting land claims among church members.
Bonus - Downton Abbey's Countess Violet to Lord Grantham - Your father always told the village what they wanted.
funny how a tv show quote could apply to old Cut and Shoot back in the day. However, their town name would probably be very bland.
A colourful name indeed.
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of it. Good challenge to participate in.

Fun! I love creative town names!
ReplyDeleteThat's a fantastic name for a town, but probably only one that works in reality - a fictional town of that name wouldn't be believed!
ReplyDeletePassing from the A to Z . . . . Interesting name indeed.

Yup, have heard of Cut and Shoot in Montgomery County. Some real famous Bubba's hail from there. Good one for 'C'.

That's awesome. I love the Downton Abbey quotes, it's such a wonderful contrast! And of course the Dowager Countess is my favorite character on the show :-)
