Eye on Texas Q - heads to the Texas/Oklahoma border to visit Quanah, TX. It is a city formed in 1884 as a stop on a railway and named for the last Comanche chief - Quanah Parker.
Based on Wikipedia, Quanah looks like it has a small town feel. Copper Breaks State Park is south of the city. There's also a small railroad museum.

Countess: "Oh, I don't think things are quite that desperate."
Send her to Quanah, Texas - that could shake things up.

ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not...have not been there, but have read about Quanah Parker in Texas History. Long way from West Texas, but they have heard of Odessa....in fact they will be playing tennis there today. How's that for alphabet coincidence O~P~Q?!

DeleteSpeaking of Comanches...I just finished reading "The Searchers," which, as you probably know, takes place in Texas and involves Comanches. It is the ONLY book that I've ever read which wasn't as good as the movie. Of course, the movie had John Wayne in it, but the ending of the book just left me "meh."

DeleteHave to admit all this was new to me so it made for a really interesting read. I looked up the meaning of the name Quanah and found out it meant fragrant - something I wouldn't really associate with a male name normally!

Not too late to watch Downton on reruns. It's so good and Dame Maggie Smith is such a superb actress. She makes the show with her clipped accent and a roll of the eye.
