Eye on Texas - E is for Eden, Texas near San Angelo is central west Texas. Half of the 2800 person population are inmates in the For-Profit Prison, Eden Detention Center
I wonder if they feel blessed?
Founded in the 1840s, Eden was named after Frederick Ede and became official in 1882. Farming, oil, livestock, and hunting - Eden has it all, along with these restaurants - The Burrito Lady, Chuy's BBQ, Happy Hollon's Grub Bus, and more. Various festivals can be enjoyed - the Spring Stampede, the Green Apple Music Series, and Christmas on the Square.
Eden looks like a lovely little community www.edentexas.com. Just don't pick up any hitchhikers in prison garb.
Bonus Downton Abbey quote by Lady Violet " I do hope I'm interrupting something."
I shall give a Texan translation "Hey, am I interrupting something, y'all"

Wow...Eden right down the road from me. I am very familiar with City Hall and the Cemetery in Eden as a Find A Grave photographer. Last trip there almost had a close encounter with a grave watcher in the form of a Big Bull Snake. The Garden of Eden is quite beautiful and well maintained as a Paradise for Flower Photographers...no Snakes in their Garden of Eden. Chuy's BBQ...awesome...don't forget a big helping of Red Beans and Cornbread. Prison has lots of lethal barbed wire along the top of the fence...have never seen anyone on the road except the guards crossing the street to the parking lot. The speed limit through there keeps the traffic moving at 55 mph.

Sounds like an interesting place
ReplyDeleteI can safely say I won't pick up hitchhikers ever, but especially in prison gear :-)

Great name. Here in upstate NY, I'm surrounded by foreign country names for some pretty small places. For example, I live in Greece (NY) and got married in Geneva (NY).
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting small town

ReplyDeleteSeeing as I know very little about Texas (I visited Corpus Christi and San Antonio several years ago, though), would it be safe to safe Eden is in the middle of nowhere?
ReplyDeletesounds like a quaint little town. Although I wouldn't want to live close to a prison...

I'm intrigued by the concept of a for-profit prison. I kinda like it, though I'd be scared to learn how they make a profit.
ReplyDeleteYay for Texas, my home state that I love!
