Landlubber poem

Landlubber

The ship rolled one way
my head and stomach another
breathe deep, refreshing sea air
reflect on mariner history
wooden ships and canvas sails
morphed into metal magnificence
tons  displacing water as engines roar
crew members press pulley buttons
to raise anchor
haunted by sea chanteys and rum casks
tourists graze buffet tables and neon-lit bars

I survey the waves
seek out land ahoy

  2. Cute! I have never been on a cruise, so I don't know if I would have gotten seasick. Been on the water at various times but never a long cruise.

    1. It made me off kilter. I used meds for preventative sake. Ray only needed it one night

  3. I'm a little seasick just reading this. Great poem! I hope all the fun and adventure and sights that you saw more than made up for having to suffer through the seasickness. Have a great weekend!

    1. Absolutely. I was always a carsick kid too. I know to have drops behind the ears and pills. They work ahead of time

  5. I don't think I've ever been seasick. I wouldn't think you could feel anything on those big cruise ships unless there was a storm.

  6. Funny, but I don't think I ever got sick on a boat. Maybe because I was enjoying the experience so much. But I HAVE gotten seasick at carnivals and on porch swings. Go figure...

Love your poem. Have a fantastic weekend.

  7. Yes I can remember crossing the English Channel when a child and feeling distinctly queasy for a while when we ran into a small storm at sea. I also find it funny when we've been on our narrow boat for some time and then getting off and finding my body keeps on slowly rocking for some time after!! Enjoy your weekend, Joanne :)
