Venetian gondolas by Arthur Carter is one of the paintings featured in an Amon Carter Museum exhibit that closed a week ago. Glassmaking in Murano, lacemaking in Burano, and the beauty of Venice itself - all were featured topics for American artists abroad in the late 1800s. It's a fascinating look into a time of grandeur and artistry.
John Singer Sargent had several good prolific years in Venice. Along with James McNeill Whistler, they were the hits of the salons.
Looked like a good exhibit Joanne. My grandson in May went to Venice with his girlfriend......and got engaged there.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week and take care.

DeleteHi Joanne - great you managed to get to the exhibit before it closed ... these look magnificent paintings ... Is Arthur Carter related to Amon Carter?
ReplyDeleteJohn Singer Sargent and Whistler both outstanding artists ... I've never been to Venice but would love to have visited ... glass-making especially in Murano ... cheers Hilary
It was a neat exhibit but different Carter. And yes the island of Murano and the glassmaking is worth a visit. Just wonderful
DeleteWhat a beautiful painting!
ReplyDeleteYes. Had to really study it. Unique perspective
DeleteGlass making is fascinating. Generally a great place for creativity of all kinds. Travelling through art is the next best thing when one can't actually go there.
ReplyDeleteThis art show helped me relive magic Venice moments. I love glass making
