A to Z - Eye on Texas: P

Eye on Texas - P - visits Ponder Texas. It's located in Denton County, north of the Dallas Fort Worth area. It has a population of 1400.
Big claim to fame is that Bonnie and Clyde might have tried to rob the Ponder State Bank back in the day. That definitely has a cool factor, especially if you think of the Warren Beatty/Faye Dunaway version of Bonnie and Clyde.
Today the claim to fame is the Ranchman's Ponder Steakhouse. I have not eaten here, but it's supposed to be worth the trek.  www.ranchman.com

From Mrs. Pattmore, our favorite cook on Downton - "Listen to me and take those kidneys up to the servery before I knock you down and serve your brains as fritters."

  1. Hi Joanne ... Ponder - what a great name for a town. I wonder if Bonnie and Clyde did try .. loved the film .. then that Ranchman's steakhouse .. sounds very good - supper time is coming up here .. a couple of hours yet ..

Fascinating to keep reading your Downton quotes - for someone who has not been watching! Cheers Hilary

  3. It would be worth the trek to see those cars up close and personal! Though I doubt they are there all the time. I will ponder your post and the possibility of getting Pete to ponder making a road trip with me to Ponder to pounce on a steak.

  4. I ponder what it means that Bonnie and Clyde "tried" to rob it. If it was that secure and proactive to preempt the robbery back then, I'm guessing the steaks are of the highest quality. I may even make the trek from No. Cal.

    Happy weekend, Joanne!

  6. Might have tried to rob the place? Did they try and fail or did someone rob it and it was thought to be them?

  7. I heard that Bonnie and Clyde broke down in Benbrook and someone helped them to get their car going without knowing who they were. We all have a little claim to fame!

  10. Pretty interesting mystery about what lured Bonnie and Clyde away from the loot. It looks like some race car drivers were in quite a hurry to try the steakhouse.

  11. I'd like to go on a big old road trip down to Texas and enjoy your posts on what I might find! As a huge Larry McMurtry fan (not the Lonesome Dove ones but the ones set in the 60's through 80's) I imagine that I would like the people and the landscape. Thanks for dropping by my place!
