Monday Moments - Fort Worth Art Adventure

I enjoyed an art Sunday over Labor Day weekend. The Kimbell offered an exhibit from the John D. Rockefeller 3rd collection of Asian Art.   Seventy works entitled Buddha, Shiva, Lotus, Dragon. Fabulous work from India, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand. The history, the beauty, and the complexity of cultures embraced in the art was wondrous. I love this museum.
Big contrast over at the Modern Museum of Fort Worth. Sean Scully - the Shape of Ideas proved colorful and interesting.  The stripes proved rather hypnotic.

I really liked the colors in this piece

The ebb and flow and the inserts added a neat dimension.  Modern art is not necessarily an instant like. And stripes - we all paint those in kindergarten. But on a huge scale, and reading words like "juxtaposition" - Sean Scully experimented and succeeded in some powerful pieces.

I had fun and enjoyed a tasty quiche at the Kimbell cafe.  Explore your backyard folks - arts, museums, expand the mind.   (And everyone wore masks - thoughtful patrons!)

  1. Think I would enjoy the Asian art the most. Good to hear everyone wore masks. At this point, everyone can be contagious so they need to.

    1. I've always liked Asian art and this was a really nice exhibit. At the museums, folks are good about not piling on top of each other.
I also believe that these art museums keep the air circulating and purified for the art itself. Merely a theory of mine to justify visits.

  2. You have a very inspiring backyard. I always have to travel a little further. Although the new museum in Plymouth looks like it will have some really interesting travelling exhibits which I'm looking forward to.

    1. Indeed, it's handy to live in Bedford - we are 15 miles from Ft.Worth and 20 from Dallas - all freeway driving. Pretty straight shot - no curvy cliffs. Oh well, you travel- further it's a bigger treat.

  4. Hi Joanne - they both look really interesting ... the BBC have had 3 programmes on the Met - and it's hibernation, and now re-invention ... it is fascinating to see - I've only watched two. I'm not sure if the British Museum are going to do things differently ... and I haven't been out of Eastbourne yet ... we have a lovely gallery here, which has an excellent avant garde cinema, with some amazing films being shown.

I love visiting with you ... cheers Hilary
