Adrift at Sea

No more landline.

I'm sure this is not news for many. It's an all cellular world with everyone saying, "Huh, what did you say?" into their smart phones.

However, I held on to the last vestige of clear signal. Ray paid the bill each month. But, we've been a week without service (I assume it was weather related) and Ray was losing the battle with the customer relations folks. Actually there were no folks - he was in auto dial hell. No end in sight.

So, since I don't chat with my father weekly on the phone (we pretty much email because he keeps weird hours), and I mostly email or text with friends to arrange a get together, this made sense.

It's all moving quickly. I've only had a cell phone for two years. Yes, you read that right. I was a hold out. I still haven't mastered all the buttons and programs and swiping stuff. Now I don't have a backup plan. I can't reach for the phone on the wall.

I will learn and I guess I need to turn on my ringer.

So what ringtone shall I put in for you?   A movie phrase, a blast of classic rock, or an animal sound.

No more landline. I am adrift at sea. My ringtone shall be a foghorn...........

  1. Lily Tomlin's 'Ring-A-Ling-A-Ding' would be good tone for me. We keep hanging on to our Lily Land Line...she never calls, but keeps plugging in the Tele$$DingALings. I think there is a ringtone that says "All Aboard"...you might like that one...especially if it rings in the middle of the night...LOL!!!

  2. We ditched our landline last year and I don't regret it. I haven't had a cell phone any longer than you (I was also a holdout) but now I don't know what I did without it.

    1. I am still able to buy groceries without having to call and discuss every item. How about you?

  3. We dropped our landline a couple of years ago too. We haven't missed it. Next, I think we will drop the cable TV and just go with internet access. We so rarely watch regular TV anymore anyway.

  4. I have a landline because it's tied up in a package with our broadband and cable service. I use it occasionally - mostly family phone me on it.

When my mum first got a mobile phone, she used to phone me, leave a message such as 'Call me', and then turn it off. If you don't do that, you're 100 times better at this modern stuff than she is :-)

    1. thanks for that piece of advice. So far I think I'm doing okay - one step in the dinosaur track, the other in outer space.

  5. Now they sell those dail up phones at all the antique and vintage stores around here. I'm tempted to buy one, just to have it. I miss it. I'm still resisting getting a Smart Phone, Joanne. Mine is your simple flap phone for calls and texting, which I hate doing and mess up every time.

    1. Oops, flip, flip whatever phone. See, I don't even know what it's call. Stupid modern technology.

    2. the smart phone is smarter than me. Basically I got my husband's leftover when he upgraded. I admit I drive an hour out on country roads, so it's useful (if I can get a signal in a crisis)

  6. We cut our landline a couple years ago and haven't regretted it. It's 2015, you know.
Now, if we could only get rid of those rabbit ears on the TV....

  7. I like having the landline, because it's easier to balance on my neck when I'm doing other things, but you can always put your cell phone on speaker to be completely hands-free. I'm sure you'll start getting used to all of the conveniences your cell phone has to offer.
